In practice, a distinction can be made between the two concepts of “medical error” (errors resulting from weaknesses in the organization and management of the treatment process) and “medical error” (personal incorrect actions or omissions). The concept of “negligence” is also used, which is a lack of diligence and/or failure to fulfill one's duties. Some of the events that require immediate action and for which the guilty parties may be held legally liable are:
Incorrect diagnosis;
Incorrectly administered medication or delay in medication;
Delay in treatment, waiting for an examination;
Allergic reaction;
Operation on the wrong organ;
Forgetting a foreign body after a surgical procedure;
Nosocomial infections;
Postoperative complications. Disability after treatment;
Death of a patient;
Working with damaged equipment;
Complications as a result of treatment – diagnostic procedures;
Lack of professional competence or qualification;
Medical negligence;
Partial treatment performed (insufficiency, inadequacy of treatment);
Trauma received in a medical facility during hospitalization.
